Volunteer Work

My husband and I currently run the CHEF orphanage in the peaceful village of Dhapakhel on the outskirts of Kathmandu. I grew up in a small remote village in Nepal, like many of the children living at the orphanage now which gives me a firsthand understanding of the difficult, and often hopeless situation that Nepali children face growing up in poverty. I currently take care of 10 children from age 8 to 12.

In March 2011 I registered my own orphanage as an NGO with the government of Nepal and welcomed my first three children to their new home at CHEF. I provide love, support, and a home for the children at CHEF.

ABOUT THE ORPHANAGE

Our goal at CHEF orphanage is to provide a positive loving environment at the home that builds the children's self esteem and encourages them to reach their maximum potential at school, at home, and in the community. We provide opportunities to poor, lower caste, orphaned, and socially deprived children in order for them to become self-sufficient Nepali Citizens. We also make sure that the children of CHEF receive a proper education by means of regular attendance at school and supplementary educational support in the home.

There are countless ways how to volunteer - chances are if you have a skill or hobby or calling to help, there is a way to share your passion with others through volunteering. Mentoring can offer volunteers the opportunity to provide support and friendship with children, who might be going through a difficult period, feeling lonely, or are adjusting to a major change in their lives. You can do as little or as much as you are comfortable with at CHEF.
